Diesel Test

Kolor Kut Diesel Paste

Original Kolor Kut diesel paste. For checking the level of diesel, biodiesel, kerosene, gasoline, and many other fuel oils in fuel tanks. The product is not as effective with alcohols—because the alcohols evaporate quickly from the dipstick, returning the paste to its original state.

When applied to a dipping tape and lowered to the bottom of a gasoline tank, the paste changes color where it comes into contact with diesel, giving you a visual indication of the depth of the diesel. Kolor Kut gasoline gauging paste is the only gasoline paste approved by the U.S. Army. It is designed for gauging hydrocarbon levels. It should always be applied “sparingly” directly to a dip stick or dip tape at approximately the point where the level is expected.

As a contact reagent, it usually changes color immediately from pink to red upon contact with hydrocarbons. For heavy oils, contact for a few seconds is required. It is a single-use paste; if the sample is immersed repeatedly, the paste must be reapplied. Low concentrations of the paste are miscible with hydrocarbons. The paste is not designed to be disturbed and must not be used in a sample.

It would be best practice to first take a sample from a tank or vat that is being sampled for analysis. The analysis results are only as accurate as the sample itself. Measuring the tanks using a small amount of paste should be the second step.
